INTO THE MOUNTAINS Set out from the city Into the mountains Think I’ll take it easy On my first day The sun’s like a beacon Shining above Like someone put it up there To guide me away I redirected my mail Left the key with my neighbour And turned off the phone And oh, it’s been so long Since I left home She told me, go do it Do what you have to But once you’re gone Don’t you come back Until you find That this life that you lead Is a choice And not some load on your back I’ll be here in the fall When the snow in the mountains Might get you lost But don’t you come running Don’t you come crying Until you’re across The mountain stands like a fortress Like a wall that you scale You either make it or fail You keep your eyes on the trail What makes us do it Take on the steep and rocky Instead of the easier road We put one step in front of the other To feel ourselves under this load And it gets lighter each day At least that’s what I hope As I shoulder my pack And oh, for once I know I’m on the right track I’m on my way I’m on my way And I might go astray And the sky may turn grey I know I’ll be okay © 2020 Tobias Panwitz

(WHEN YOU’RE) OUT WALKING When you’re out walking There’s no need for much talking When you’re walking It’s all about the trail When you’re out walking There’s no need for much talking You just walk the walk There’s no way you can fail I used to jump a plane each time I tried to leave myself behind Went to see the world And never had much doubt We used to brag about all we’d seen My backpacking buddies and me Now I’m wondering what the fuss was all about Cause when you’re out walking ... Now I’m putting on my boots I walk anywhere I chose What you haven’t walked Baby, you ain’t seen Dirt tracks and rough terrain From the mountains to the plains See the ocean from afar all blue and green When you’re out walking ... Now you can feel all safe at home There in your comfort zone But you’re missing out on life Just out of reach It’s all there for you to find Once you leave the trailhead behind I think I’ll shut up now Cause who am I to preach When you’re out walking ... © 2020, Tobias Panwitz

THANK GOD FOR THOSE PEOPLE Met a man and a woman today They were clearing the trail Digging ditches for the water to drain So I could be on my way Thank God for those people There’s a man who’s been walking up and down All over these hills Marking trees, marking rocks, marking roads And he ain’t sending me no bills Thank God for those people I couldn’t really make it on my own No matter how I try Ain’t living on an island all alone I might just need someone to guide me home To help me get by Men and women under the sky Some are young some are old Keep the fires burning up high Offer shelter from the cold Thank God for those people I couldn’t really make it on my own No matter how I try Ain’t living on an island all alone To find my way I might just need someone To help me get by © 2020 Tobias Panwitz

Walk With Me 03:14
Walk with me Won’t you come and walk with me For a while along this way Hopes and dreams and reveries Have led us both right here today And it may not be for long For our paths may part again So won’t you come and walk with me Just until this road will end I’ve been out here on my own Sure don’t mind to be alone Listening to the wind and rain And I would love to hear your song Melodies like morning rain And your voice high as wind I could find a harmony There’s nothing like a song to sing Breathing in the morning air And the sun is on the rise The promise of another day And a glimmer in your eyes Take it like a new born child Take it like your final hour It will never come again But here it is and here we are © 2020, Tobias Panwitz

GOD BY MY SIDE I can’t feel my feet no more They hurt so bad they’re numb Today I climbed two miles up into the sky Left this morning at the break of dawn Made a stop for some bread and cheese Wondering why these mountains are so high And if I wanna make it across this mountain range I’ll need God by my side I’ll need all the gods by my side And if I wanna keep all the darkness from my brain I’ll need you by my side Something true I can’t hide I’m feeling weird from the food I ate Last night at the mountain refuge I think I’ll need to lose it before too long Wonder if the altitude sickness pills I brought will be of use Wondering when my headache will be gone And if I wanna make it across this mountain range ... Oh, what am I trying to prove Somehow all I feel is tired and spent Oh, at least some weight I’ll lose They say this trip transforms you in the end The sun it burns my skin The rain is getting through my boots Last night brought half a meter of fresh snow I can’t see a thing out in the fog it don’t look good Can’t tell which direction I should go And if I wanna make it across this mountain range ... © 2020 Tobias Panwitz

THINKING NOTHING I’m walking straight on level roads Today there’s no up or down Nothing goes on in my head No thought for miles around Today I’m thinking nothing My mind’s just drifting off into space Today I’m thinking nothing Don’t try to read in my empty face Is that some random idea creeping up on me No, it’s gone My heart beat’s synced to the rhythm of my feet I might just come up with a song But no, I’m thinking nothing My mind’s a glorious blank white page Today I’m thinking nothing Like all my pondering went backstage Please don’t talk to me Just let me be Please don’t wake me up I’ve had enough Sometimes it’s like a bombardement A noise that drowns me out Something therapy and meditation can’t do much about But today I’m thinking nothing My mind’s just drifting off into space Today I’m thinking nothing Don’t try to read in my empty face Today I’m thinking nothing My mind’s a glorious blank white page Today I’m thinking nothing Like all my pondering went backstage Please don’t wake me No don’t shake me Please don’t wake me up © 2020 Tobias Panwitz

BREATHING, BREATHING OUT Gonna keep on climbing Gonna get up to the top Gonna keep on moving Whatever I do I ain’t gonna stop Breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt Keep breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt Take it day by day now Take it step by step Gonna keep on going Not wastin’ a thought On what’s lying ahead Breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt Keep breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt What you’re gonna tell me What you’re gonna say All your good intentions Ain’t gonna stand in my way Breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt Keep breathing in, breathing out Find my rhythm, lose my doubt © 2020, Tobias Panwitz

ON THE OTHER SIDE Some things you just cannot hide If you wanna make it to the other side Gotta face the truth within you If you ever wanna make it through Ooh, we will be alright Ooh, on the other side Gotta take it further step by step Cause you know that we ain’t beaten yet Keep moving on and never stop All the way up to the top Ooh, we will be alright Ooh, on the other side Through the cold and through the heat Listen to your heart beat And the rhythm of your feet Will get you anywhere Ooh, we will be alright Ooh, on the other side Ooh, we will be alright Ooh, on the other side © 2020, Tobias Panwitz

MILES AND MILES Today’s not a day for dark thoughts Or feeling uptight Today’s a day to watch the sun come up Cause the clouds dissolved over night And I’m climbing over the tree line With my head up in the sky And I can see for miles and miles I’m moving forward swinging Just dancing along the abyss I’m walking a line between safety and chaos Mortal fear and bliss And there’s a chilly wind that’s blowing And it’s making me feel so alive And I can see for miles and miles I can see for miles and miles Don’t you know that you’re here with me Don’t you know you will always be And wherever we are we will see The same blue sky So I think I’ll stay a little longer Cause the air up here is good And I’m breathing in as deep as I can Just like old Humboldt would And I can see him up hear measuring The blueness of the sky And I can see for miles and miles I can see for miles and miles © 2020 Tobias Panwitz

THE ROAD GOES ON Further down that I go The more it goes to show This road don’t lead anywhere It’s the moments we share Just here and now That’s all somehow We run and climb But all we find is Beyond the shore The road goes on For evermore Coming down from these hills Hope that you’ll be there still Right back here in your arms Naked and disarmed Just here and now That’s all somehow We run and climb But all we find is Beyond the shore The road goes on For evermore © 2020, Tobias Panwitz
